Traffic Landmark reached! over 1 million hits so far this month

August
27

I checked my stats just now and my jaw dropped, after just over 1 year of blogging, I have finally gone past the million hits a month mark!

I’ve also noticed my Alexa rank go to lower and lower numbers over the past few weeks too. As I write this it is at 61,627 which puts me in the top 7000 websites in the UK. rule brittania!!

It looks as though not much has changed in the way of which posts are most popular, just how much more traffic they get.

I think it’s time I released a new plugin. It’ll be the contest notify one that you might see drop down on this post. It frees a spot for a featured post and allows you to continue writing posts without worrying about dropping the contest post too far down the screen so it doesn’t get enough attention.

Hopefully that can take me up a few more hits or so!

Take a look at the screenshot of my current stats page below..

that’s 1 million 8 hundred and 19 thousand 502 hits so far this month

by golly!

I started this blog with the tagline “get hits or die tryin” as a bit of a joke but I never imagined this site could get so busy. I attribute most of it to being an internet god my CommentLuv plugin and remote script that does the fetching of the last blog post.

A few people have asked why the script that does the fetching is held remotely on my server and it’s because of my new plans that are starting to come together (mwuhahaha!). The AJAX platform independent version of CommentLuv and associated member site will be soon, the AJAX version is the reason behind the remote script. This way I’ll be able to code a CommentLuv plugin that only requires the user to be able to add a javascript reference to the head of their template, no Wordpress core code needed at all. Things will start to rok soon enough!

Thanks to everyone for continuing to visit FiddyP, I do it all for your (comment)luv ;-)

That’s brilliant news, congratulations. My site is stagnating on around 100 uniques a day. The best I got was 17k a month which was when I got popular on digg for a few days.

Personally I wouldn’t take much notice of the Alexa rank as it is very inaccurate. Although as you get more and more popular the statistics become more and more accurate, it is not the best way of measuring your site’s success.

Use Google analytics instead of awstats as it’s a lot better. More accurate, reliable and is able to produce more detailed statistics.

ipod: I use google too but that doesn’t log people without javascript and only counts pages that have the tracker code embedded in them. I use awstats to see all the other files that get viewed or accessed from other sites.

    Hey Andy

You may remember me from the VWD forum . (RAC)

I ain’t been here for a while so it was a surprise to see your brand new theme!

A bigger surprise was to see the traffic you are now getting, internet God indeed! Well done mate.

Since I was last here I have moved to the dark side, I have a brand new iMac- and it’s fantastic, I should have done it years ago!

Anyhoo, well done again, I will be checking in more often now :)

    Wow, congratulations Andy, it’s well-deserved!

My current target is to get to 1000 uniques a month – but we’re in a very niche market :-)

    Cheers, Jon

    Pete, Xana: Thanks !

Rich: welcome back to the internets! I’ve never used an iMac, hope you use it often to come here :-)

Jon: thanks, you ave a pretty niched market for your site. I made a beauty salon website for a client once, they never did any marketing for it at all! I guess I should send them your way…

That intrigued me to look at my stats and was rather surprised when I saw over 2 million hits. Holly cow. I actually broke the 1 million mark last month.

Anyways, looking at Google Analytics I have ‘only’ 130,000 registered page views this month.

Ah and a note on Alexa. For some reason it is showing a drop in traffic although actually it’s on the rise. They have a weird algorithm

wow Vladimir that’s great news! my google analytics is way below what my server log stats say but I do have a lot of files that aren’t embedded with the urchin script.

alexa has been a bit strange for me too, I heard that they have changed their ranking algorithm
