CommentLuv is now released to the Codex and is officially at final version 2.1. All beta testers need to upgrade their beta plugins because the remote files have changed…
Here’s a list of all the beta testers who helped get CommentLuv to version 2.1 and their allocated numbers for entry into the contest to win the 100$ … if any of their first 3 numbers match the bonus number drawn this Saturday 27th September on the UK Saturday Lotto Draw then they win 100$!
Here’s the twist for all you testers, you have all got 1 number shared with one other person and if it’s that number that wins, you both win 100$ each!!! OMG!!
Good luck everyone and thanks so much for the feedback and help…
You will need to make sure you have CommentLuv version 2.1 running and working on your blog by the draw date to qualify for the prize!

You will be able to see the result here on Saturday at around 9pm (GMT)
You can download the very latest version at the WordPress Plugin Repository for CommentLuv
On the off chance that the winner doesn’t qualify for the prize because they haven’t got version 2.1 installed and working at the time of the draw then their extra number partner gets their numbers too (so you could potentially win 200$)
You have 4 days to get version 2.1 installed and working, please let me know if you need help to get it working. It should go through ok once you check your settings page after install.

I’ve just upgraded and now it isn’t showing any luv. Don’t tell me I stiffed something up. Normally it shows up in the dashboard that a plugin needs upgrading but it didn’t so I just wrote over the old files.
I left the settings as default. My commentluv member ID is still there. I logged out to test it and the image is there, but that’s it.

Sire: I think your settings are remembering the beta version settings of #url for the url field, if there is a # character in the url id name in the settings page you will need to remove it. I’ll see if I can add a reset settings button for the beta users
Dennis: try deleting the commentluv folder (after deactivating) and then upload the new version
sunil: thanks for helping out
September 24th, 2008 on 7:57 am
Andy – thats exactly what I did (I never override if I can avoid it).
Not only will the new one not upload, but now I can’t restore the other one (I didn’t delete the deletion just in case).
This is the long error message I get when trying to restore the original one……

That did it. I had to remove the # from both url and comment and then it worked. Damn, now I have a headache. I don’t know how you do it.
Think I need a beer.
Thanks Andy.

I did get this uploaded finally, I just need a clue on how to set it up in the settings page

Dennis: check out the latest post (coming soon) for the “by popular demand” updates to the plugin. I have added a reset box to the settings page if you mess things up with the values.
Sire: get me a lime and soda! (lol, just kidding!… it’s lemon and soda)
Sunil: thanks for letting us know
lodewijk: see above about updates, one more is allowing the user to use text instead of an image (or no image at all)
I tried with your feedburner url and it came back with less than 2 posts. You could of course register your url at commentluv.com and specify a feed location there which turns on caching so feedburner should send back a full feed.
September 24th, 2008 on 5:23 pm
Lodewijk: I can see you are registered and have your site verified at commentluv.com have you specified your feed of http://feeds.lodewijkvdb.com/HowToBeAnOriginal in the settings page at commentluv.com? if you did, it should work. For some reason, your feed isn’t returning anything unless I use a browser to view it
The only way the server can track how many comments you make is when the script gets called. You don’t need to submit the comment for it to count it because it doesn’t know if you pressed submit or not.
the click tracking should be accurate but the links made and recieved wont be spot on simply because it would be impossible to tell if a user changed their last post or if they decided not to submit. also, if you are logged out of your own site and reply to one of your commenters, that will count as one comment made.
I could add a bit of script to confirm this with the commentluv site but I wouldn’t want to delay the comment posting which is vital to happy users!

you need to change your commentform ID to #commentform (with a #) for it to work on your site (in the settings page for the plugin)

Hmm, strange that my feeds shows up nearly empty outside the browsers. It validates through the feed validators, so there’s no coding error with it. Since feedburner serves it, I don’t expact real problems there as well.
I’ll experiment more, since it’s still not working. If I find a solution I’ll let you know.
September 24th, 2008 on 10:56 pm
ASPR: thanks!
tata: worth every penny!
lodewijk: there is something up with your feed for sure, I even tried a commercial feed script and that had trouble too
