I think everyone likes to win stuff especially when it's not a complicated process like the one you've put in place -- I just checked the Wordpress Extend Plug-ins stats showing there were 88 downloads today, 97 yesterday, 791 last week and 33,959 in total. That info potentially might attract sponsors. As you say though, it's only been active four days. It's a great plug-in so the contest aspect is just a bonus.
