CommentLuvvers – Interesting sites that use CommentLuv

commentluv

Another round of great blogs that use CommentLuv, now there’s even more chance to see CommentLuv blogs because Paul from imafish.co.uk has converted my code into a Drupal version. Nice one Paul!

http://www.kidazy.com/ is a great looking site that provides reviews on toys and games for children age 0 and up. I like what Amy has done with the layout and the attention she gives to each product. Much more than a “whack up a product picture and affiliate” blog. Worth checking out if you have kids (and money!)

http://www.thenetfool.com is an up and coming John Cow/Chow blog with some quite in-depth reviews of marketing and advertising products, see his post on Project Wonderful

http://menstrualpoetry.com/ is a blog that caught my eye because of it’s URL. Menstrual poetry! lol. On further inspection, the blog is definitely one for the ladies with posts such as The truth about prostitution and Voting for Hillary just because she is a woman (which turns out to be a balanced and sensible read..”Feminism is a movement that is based on equality and being granted the same rights and freedoms that men have, so by voting for a woman candidate just because she’s a woman, aren’t we taking a step in the wrong direction?”)

http://www.untwistedvortex.com/ is a fantastically useful site to visit, check out Richards excellent post about how to combat splogs and get your pagerank back after being penalized by google.

http://www.johncow.com/ is a blog I am sure you know, he’s just started using CommentLuv to encourage people to jump from a feed reader to his posts to leave their opinion. Show you care and leave him a (relevant) comment!

    Hi,

    Michael from Germany here.

I’m sure there are a lot more sites out there using commentLuv that are equally worth to mention.

As commentLuv seems to spread, may i make a suggestion?

What about creating a Linkpage or DB for all sites using it?

It might be of interst to other user of oyur great plugin.

We could build a community of Giving and Getting CommentLuv …

    What do you think?

    Hi, Andy,

Remember me? The TypePad user who was dying for CommentLuv. I found the blog today just doing a search to see who’s using it and I find you are keeping your own list!

    So, a few I didn’t see listed:

    http://justcreativedesign.com/
    http://www.logodesignlove.com/
    http://www.caroline-middlebrook.com/blog/
    http://menwithpens.ca/

It’s spreading fast! I’ll keep you bookmarked and see who else you learn about. If you ever go for TypePad, don’t forget to write. I recommend CommentLuv to everyone who’ll listen, and even mentioned the frustrating mess in a post on my blog a while back.

    Good luck with it!

    Regards,

    Kelly

michael: it’s a good idea and I do try to keep a track of who installs the plugin with a list that updates when a ping comes in from a user who first activates it but I don’t think having a database of links to those sites is a good idea, it would act as a spammers delight directory just like the top commentators and dofollow lists. If you want to see what blogs are using it, you could use a yahoo site explorer page which shows 386,764 results! … a pretty big list to maintain! :-)

Kelly: Hi again, I remember you. I even went so far to post a project on a freelancer board for someone to make a typepad version but not even one person responded! typepad is a platform that costs money to use so maybe they should write it themselves!

Franca: nice blog! thanks for visiting

    Andy,

I totally agree. I’ve talked about it all over the place, the fact that they’re “open” to new stuff but not seeking or helping to develop it is rather astonishing. In the last few days I just finished my struggle with their beta “RSS subscribe to comments.” Beta, now, and only as RSS? How far behind can they be?

One more site that just started using CommentLuv (did I mention it’s spreading like wildfire):
    http://write-from-home.com/

    All good people, too.

What I’ve noticed is that I read blogs in a few “circles” (design, writing, marketing, etc.). Once one person in a circle has got CommentLuv, within a couple of weeks it’s in 3-4 other blogs in the circle, too. It’s like a fever. Exposure to it can definitely spread it, and can cause people like me to seriously consider leaving unresponsive TypePad behind.

For now, I love it from afar (until I feel I understand how to make the switch!).

Kelly: yes I have noticed a ripple effect with commentluv too, I’m constantly surprised by it’s reach considering I wrote it just for myself to use on this blog. There is another version of CommentLuv for Drupal now made by Pete from imafish.co.uk, he says it was relatively easy to convert it, shame about typepad being so darn difficult to handle (unless you are a perl geek!)

Sharon: Cow or Chow, no matter!, there’s been a massive upsurge in installs which has prompted me to start on the new and improved version which should take care of all the little quirks that happen on some hosting platforms… check out the new post tomorrow detailing what I want to do with it.

    Hi,

Ultimately, the blog webmaster has control over the comments
which do or do not make sense for their site anyway. I also
heard of and will be checking out a related plugin called
KeywordLuv. Thanks for a very interesting perspective on this
and I’ll probably be adding it to my WP blog as well.

    Thanks

I’ve noticed a huge difference in the number and quality of comments after I installed CommentLuv. Especially when people see I approve comments that are of value in bot information and aren’t simply one liners that want to get links back to their site.

I would encourage anyone who has a blog to seriously consider installing the CommentLuv plugin and at least consider removing the nofollow tag. Sure you might get a few spam comments, but you can always delete these instead of approving. Remember, comments are content for your site, fresh content, and if the person leaving the comment has written something of value then it can help when the search spiders crawl your site for fresh content.

Do any of these sites pass on any value really? I know people think of PR and backlinks, but surely one link from one post on such a huge site with many outbound links won’t be worth much.
