Thanks to all the beta testers of CommentLuv, release 13 is the most stable and compatible version yet. I don’t wanna tempt fate but if everything works as well ‘out there’ as it does on my test machines and servers then it will be updated on the codex so everyone will get notified of the new version and we can all start seeing it spread to the existing v1.99 blogs.
I’ve been deep in code and frantically checking each and every site that has activated the beta version and in nearly all cases have managed to see the plugin working on those who’ve tried it.
I have a small tradition I like to do when I’m deep in a project and that’s to not shave from when I start it to when I feel comfortable that there’s only cosmetic changes to come.
here’s me before I started coding this new version and site

and this is me after using my awesome Wilkinson Sword quatro with beard trimmer (6th week without changing a blade and beard trimming twice a week) that cost a measly 3.50GBP best.razor.ever!

and another looking more serious…

hurray, smooth skin means success in something. I must admit that I like the bristles, they give me something other than a cigarette to fiddle with while I’m thinking. My missus likes them too
There have been a couple of sites that required me to change the plugin code but mostly this was to make it compatible with other not-so-well-behaving ajax scripts and wotnot. This new version takes out the onsubmit event altogether which makes things much less prone to being tripped up by other scripts that listen to the comment form (ajax preview, threaded comments). You can download it in the usual place or click here
Happy commenting, please give it a test here. I tried every combination of error, not found, blank result, resubmitted comment and mess up I could and it seemed ok.

Andy, you need a new tagline – “The Brad Pitt of internet marketing”!
Congrats on the beta release, let me know if you want any help

Looking sharp, man.
Well I took the plunge and installed ACL beta on my own site. I could have done it sooner, but I wanted to make sure things wouldn’t explode, etc.
I even updated my badge on the right-hand column of my site.
I’m registered at CL.com but I still can’t choose a different post to show. You cover installation pretty well on the CL.com about page, but you don’t cover integration much. I’m curious:
1. Where are the instructions on how to use the verification code?
2. When I leave a comment on another site, does my URI have to be the same as the site I entered in on CL.com?
Oh, and thanks for giving me credit on the ACL install page. Let me know if you need any other graphics!

jon: do you know any marketing angelinas ?
Byteful: I suppose I should make a small video for the verification code. You only need to put the html code it gives you on your site and come back to commentluv to do the verify.
if you want to display your last 10 comments on acl blogs, you need to use the same url as the one you registered at commentluv.com
Dennis: it’s showing a last blog post for all your comments here. what problem are you having?
September 21st, 2008 on 9:13 pm
That’s not my last post…

are you registered at commentluv.com ? that stores your feed url and is more accurate.
at least with this version you can see what post it is going to put before you submit so if it’s really important for you to advertise the very latest post then you can choose to wait until it sees it before you comment. it’s not always the plugin at fault, there are many factors that could be affecting it. I tried it from a different server and it found it ok so my guess is there is some cache or interruption between the commentluv server and yours
September 22nd, 2008 on 12:05 am
I think I am registered. What would cause it to only go wonky on this blog though?

Hmm ok I wasn’t registered, now I am. I am also more confused…..what was the site a couple months ago where we all registered our blogs?
still not working here btw lol

you also have to verify your site, it should have told you in the email notification. once that is done, get the site to find your feed and save your settings, that should hopefully get your latest one
September 22nd, 2008 on 12:38 am
I’m just about to upload the new plugin to do that.
One question…in the folder, including pics, there are 10 files….the readme states to only upload the cl.php file…..really?

ok I found out why commentluv is not getting your latest post, because your url isn’t registered. my routine doesn’t cache the feed. this is a quote I found
I knew it’d be something like that. phew!

dennis: it is still in beta which means the program itself is the one being updated, when it goes final then I’ll update the readme. the other files are for language support and button graphics.
boy, you’re a tough one to please
September 22nd, 2008 on 1:10 am
Now we all do the dance of luv!
Oh hey check that out….I was also wondering why the drop down menu was showing weird stuff until now LOL
That is just too cool. We seriously need to get the word out, that menu option is way to awesome to miss.
Now anyone with a crappy filler post won’t have to show it

I told you I don’t handle things well when it don’t work LOL..hence, my frustrations with most beta’s.
I’m quite pleased now that this is workin
OK so I DO have to only upload the cl.php file or the whole folder….yep a bit slow lol.

hehee, I know how you feel. I hate it when things don’t work, especially things I made myself!!
just upload the whole folder to get all the goodliness. your site will work with the default settings. best to check your settings page in the dashboard and enable click tracking and enter your commentluv member id in the box (you can see that at http://www.commentluv.com/settings/ after you log on)
September 22nd, 2008 on 2:13 am
On my settings page I have…
Site: http://www.directsaleswebmarketing.comReset
Verification Code: af0358c99386e5e2ab21088eecdb6e63
Your CommentLuv member ID: 107
Ready
Update Your Settings
Option value
Default cache age (mins) 15
Your Feed Url feeds.feedburner.com/DirectSalesWebMarketing
I’m not sure if I should make that public or not, but does it look ok…is my click tracking set?

dennis: you have the correct button displayed but you will need to use the latest version of the plugin to have click tracking on your site.
once you install the new version of the plugin then you can add your member id of 107 to the settings page for the plugin in your dashboard.
sire: actually, the pics are a photoshopped version of this
September 22nd, 2008 on 11:04 am
Aha! LOL.
Well, seeing the new title to this post, I’m glad I didn’t install 12 yet LOL
Is this going to be one of those “version per day” deals, cause I can wait
Dennis Edell´s last blog post..6 Days Since Last Post: Lots Of Updates!
September 22nd, 2008 on 11:16 am
oh dear dennis, you would think I was releasing an operating system!! don’t worry, it was a minor fix for a particular type of theme that requires registration to comment.
the plugin does nothing to the database and the only communication to my server is made by the browser on the client side so if it doesn’t work, it can be deactivated with no issues.
but if you are worried about plugins messing with your blog, the best advice is not to use them because they aren’t covered by guarantees or money back offers!
September 22nd, 2008 on 11:28 am
So, Andy, am I free to add it to all seven blogs now?

sire: I think it’s ready, I’m due to release it to the codex and bring it out of beta tomorrow. I’m just doing the readme file and plugin page now so I should think it will be ok to install on your other blogs
that reminds me, I have to get the profile page up and error check page ready..
dennis: me too!

Hi Andy. I may be the goofy one here, but my version is 1.99, and I’m wondering if it’s something totally different than what I’m running, or are the numbers, well, goofy! lol

Dennis: When the final release shows up on your dashboard, it will be version 2.1 . I am changing the remote scripts for this final version so that it all goes to one place and then I can start to phase out the old version because it’s causing some massive amount of hits to my server!
