CommentLuv Ajax Preview, now platform independent !

April
7

I spent a large part of last weekend coding some changes to CommentLuv, well, changing the way it can be called and how it displays posts and such. Here’s a little preview of what sort of thing it can do on a dummy form, let me know if it can’t pick up your last post or if you experience any issues with it…

This is running as just javascript and jquery without using any of the wordpress core functions and it should work on standard forms on sites that don’t have PHP enabled. I just need to tidy up the code and package it in an easy to install way and it’ll open up CommentLuv to many more platforms…yey!

I’m not 100% sure yet but this could mean a blogspot commentluv plugin, I’m trying some experiments now and so far the results are promising…

Very nice plugin! I’m using an AJAX one that breaks badly on Safari. Thanks.

    Hi Andy,

Looks really great! Being able to choose which post to use is exceptionally cool. I’ve been known to hold off publishing an inconsequential post, because I want to make a few comments while CommentLuv will pick up the previous ‘pillar’ post.

By the way, it seems that DoFollow isn’t active on your blog at the moment, but your Blog Comment Policy says it is. Thought you’d like to know…

[edit: but I can manually remove the nofollow tag from the CommentLuv created link through the AJAX Edit Comments plugin! :) hmm, if you intentionally turned DoFollow off, please add the nofollow tag again]

Stephen: I know what you mean, I sometimes have to wait a few minutes for my feed to update before I comment on a CL blog!

re. dofollow. thanks for reminding me! I deactivated the plugin while I was transferring to a dedicated server and must have forgot to switch it back on. I’ll rectify that now

Hi Andy, what a fantastic plugin! I certainly hope that more people will be willing to comment more on my blogs when they get such a blatant backlink. Keep up the good work.

I’ll get the new version of commentluv working properly and then integrate the ajax version, I need the plugin to experience plenty of use to iron out any little problems that may arise first… thanks for your comments!

WOW! This is great! I’ll love to see the ajax version as a Wordpress Plugin. I think you’ll have to move to prototype, that is the Javascript Framework Wordpress uses.

    Greets!

carol: it will come soon enough! I just want to iron out any problems with the last post being parsed, it seems there is some slight issue with autofinding a blogspot feed so I’ll add a check in there to see if it is a blogspot blog posting, the old ones are ok but the new versions don’t get parsed.

I think that blogspot blogs will have to use haloscan as their commenting system for it to work but that’s not such a big problem. I just need some time to change the way the script finds the form elements and it’ll be ready…

I agree that encouraging comments is a great thing – even if the people reading are just commenting to get that link. As long as they read, contribute to the article and put something intelligent – then they should have that link there. It is a good service to help other people get those links.

solomon: if your feed is long to load, it may go back to the last one it got from you or feedburner might be sending a cached version of your feed.

CommentLuv wont add your last blog post if you have a feed with only 1 link. I did this to prevent spammers from creating spam feeds (sp’eeds?) just to advertise one site. Try again when you have more posts
