There’s no video this week because BT who, in their gargantuan corporate way have managed to create a cluster f*** out of my moving house service. And there’s no broadband for another 2 weeks.
“yes Mr. Bailey, we’ll disconnect your old service on the 21st and connect your new service on the 22nd and let you know when you’re connected”
LIARS!
I phoned up on the 22nd hoping to hear the news that the new number and all is ready so I can go ahead and arrange the broadband with o2 but, oh noooo, not so. I got told that the connection got delayed. The disconnection, however, did not get delayed. That went right ahead, so now I have no connection.
BRITISH TELECOM CAN GO SUCK EGGS
Why do I get a well spoken Scottish lass when I arrange a new line but any problems get transferred to an Indian call center?

As Forest Gump is apt to say, “It Happens.”
Don’t worry, it will work out. Perhaps there’s a neighbor with wireless nearby that you can talk with. I find that most people are very helpful/cooperative when you’re in need.
Do you really get a scottish lass on the phone for british tech support? I may have to rethink my decision not to visit the UK

there is a very limited connection I can use but the videos I upload are usually very large and it ties up the shop connection which I need for google maps
scottish is not for tech support, you only get the scottish when everything is going fine… if you need to complain or ask why something wasn’t done, you’ll get sanjeeva from nepal dealing with your call.
me : “when can I expect a call ?”
sanjeeva: “you can be called any time”
me: “ok, I’ll pay my bill any time too”

Different place same results, telecoms are horrible on customer service. I just stood around for 14 hours yesterday waiting for them when they arrived at 7pm on a Saturday night, horrible!

So far, knock wood, our service provider has friendly, helpful and local support staff. But it’s a regional provider, not national.

mark: I did the same thing waiting for my monitors delivery, missed it by 15 minutes on a Friday at 1pm so I had to wait until Monday for the second try. they arrived at 5.30 pm after a whole day of checking the window every 5 seconds!
Dennis: it was either eggs or some words that would of got me banned on quite a few sites!
witchypoo: we really only have 1 supplier here, in most cases, you can’t get another one unless they use them to connect the line
Dean: unfortunately I need the speed of always on all the time large bandwidth connection. No mobile broadband I’ve tried can even compare to landline yet so I’m stuck in the copper ages.

The Problem with BT is that every department is like a mini company in itself, which results in terrible communication between them as basically they couldn’t care less about each other. As long as their department is running fine that’s good enough. When I was doing web design for clients it took one site over 6 months to go live and each time we spoke to BT the answer was always the same it will be live within the next 24 hours. They have perfected the art of lying to the point that you believe the sincerity in what they are saying when you speak to them on the phone. Would never use them for Intenet unless I has absolutely no choice. Hope its fixed soon.

Khaled, if what you say is true, that British Telecom often passes blatant lies as truth, I wouldn’t want to be them when that comes back around to them.
Karma.

Being from the US, I’ve never dealt with BT. But, from your account, they sound just like AT&T. They charged us $100 to move our DSL when we bought a new house. 2 weeks later, it didn’t work so we called to inquire. They said a tech was fixing it and it would be another week.
After that week, we called again as it still didn’t work. When we asked why, they told us that DSL was not available in our area!!

Oh the power of outsourcing. They want to save your complaints and problems for the cheaper labor since you’ll most likely be on the line for much longer.

khalid: I agree with you. all I need is the bleeding phone line and o2 can give me back my broadband. in my old place they say the new tenant can’t have a line because it’s in my name but they sent her a bill with her name on it only to deny that she exists when she phones up to ask whats happening.
gossip gal: I hear you loud and clear. I’ve noticed more and more big companies are (seemingly on purpose) giving everyone the runaround just so they don’t have to spend any more money.
Alex: I know, luckily I am a fan of switching off the computer and leaving it but it’s not nice when I’m all up for using it and I have to wait 3 minutes for a simple google query to display. give it to me fast or don’t give it to me at all!
cindy: that’s exactly what I can see happening with more and more companies that I’ve had to deal with since moving house.

Some time it happens, people actually enjoy by making your life like hell. I seriously don’t understand the problem with these guys; they always try to trouble you. We don’t expect such a stupid thing from BT.
If the new connection got delayed they should not remove the old connection making you without the phone and obviously the broad band.

Personally I don’t trust BT further than I can cick them. It’s sad that the US has better internet than we do.

Honestly, Some call centers in India are fine, but some just speaks in totally broken accent with very disturbing accents. I am not sure why they are outsourcing to some people who can not speak English properly.

Terrible treatment.
A company has an incentive to put effort into sales. Revenue increases in proportion to the quality of the sales effort.
But the consequences of good or bad after-sales service are a bit more subtle. Particularly with telcos. The company knows that you are (or feel) stuck with them for a minimum term. It doesn’t matter how badly they treat you, they still get revenue from you each month. There’s no incentive for them to give good after-sales service.
What would make a telco want to give good after-sales service? Bad reputation. Bad word-of-mouth leads to a reduction in sales – less cash for the fat cats – now that’s an incentive.
But all telcos have terrible after-sales service. It’s a cartel of bad service. There’s no escape.
Another example: If you wanted cardboard boxes in Australia in 2004, you had to buy from the cartel, and there was no incentive for the cartel members to lower prices. No amount of bad word-of-mouth would change the fact that customers had no “good” choice.
Even if you complain about them, and tell over 9000 of your friends, what difference does it make? Consumers get to choose between Company A’s bad service and Company’s B’s bad service.
There’s no incentive for telcos to improve after-sales service. It’s a cartel of bad service.

BT are rubbish are sorting problems out. Have been overcharged, been promised to have a line installed and them not turn up… can be a complete nightmare. Incidentally, if you want to talk to the Chief Executive of BT, his email address can be found on this site: http://www.connectotel.com/marcus/ceoemail.html
Hope that helps!

You get the nice sounding girl to make sure you sign up then they make you call india when you have problem. I think companies figure you will get tired of trying to figure out what they are saying and give up. They already signed you up so why be nice anymore is the new moto for business.
